MEET JOY ABASTA

Joy founded Public Health Speaks (PHS) in 2019, just before she joined Simon Fraser University to study Master of Public Health.

Her goals for PHS aims to discuss health and social inequities, as well as a resource website to address the gaps between the community and the limited knowledge of healthcare resources available to them. She also hopes to create a community for aspiring International Students interested to become Public Health Champions in Canada and globally.

Joy is based in Vancouver, Canada but before immigrating, she was a Registered Nurse in her home country, the Philippines. She completed her degrees in Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Nursing, and Master of Education before the age of 24. After being in the healthcare workforce for a decade, she decided to go back to school to learn more about the sociological aspects of Health.

If you wish to connect with her, please email her at publichealthspeaks@gmail.com
